Local. Handmade. Unique. Pure. These are all words that will come to mind after you experience our vodka, but it wasn’t always this easy for us to deliver such a wonderful elixir..
Before the inception of our distillery, after binge-watching a show called Moonshiners, Kyle Michels had an urge to craft handmade vodka that started to form inside of him that he just couldn’t shake. After some time, this plan of making vodka began to take form and trial batches started taking place. This process went on for about a year with a few slight miscalculated explosions. Yes.. Explosions. So Kyle packed up shop from a home kitchen and moved to what was once the 1942 Yellow Freight building and began upgrading his gear and perfecting his craft to turn the building into what is now Bomb City Distillery.
“Bomb City” was an easy choice for a name as it plays off of one of Amarillo’s nicknames is Bomb City, which is a reference to the nearby Pantex plant, a DOE-owned facility that is the final point of assembly and disassembly of nuclear warheads. Local representation is a huge part of what we do. That’s why all of our grains used for our Vodka and Whiskey are sourced right here from the Texas Panhandle.
Bomb City Distillery opened July 16, 2019, on 306 S Cleveland, about a half mile off Route I-40. We are the Panhandle’s first distillery, so our goal is to provide fresh tasting spirits for the whole Panhandle.
